Canadians are a nation of dog lovers. Toronto has a population of 2.8 million humans and 230000 dogs. Pet friendly accommodation is plentiful, as our dog parks and activities. Unfortunately though strict regulations mean pets aren’t allowed anywhere food is served in most parts of Canada. For a winter visit, this was particularly tough as the Canadian winter is brutal. With limited indoor activities, travelling to Canada with your dog in the winter can be difficult.
Plane – We flew from London Gatwick to Toronto with Air Transat. They allow pets up to 10kg in cabin for an additional fee. Air Canada also allow pets to fly direct to Canada from the UK. Requirements – Canada considers the UK to be rabies free. However, Canada is not rabies free. As such, they will accepts dogs from the UK that haven’t been vaccinated against rabies if they have an export certificate from DEFRA. But, if your dogs has a rabies vaccination, all you need to enter is evidence of this. The EU pet passport is an acceptable document for entry.
